A Christmas tree hadn’t appeared in Poland until the 19th century. It was introduced to our country by German colonists settling down on our terrains during . Later, the tradition was accepted by the Polish bourgeois and intelligentsia. In the country Christmas trees appeared as late as in the interwar time (central and southern Poland).At the beginning Christmas trees were decorated with natural things such as apples, gingerbread, nuts, decorations made of straw and paper. Artificial glass balls replaced this beautiful tradition.

Choinka pojawiła się w Polsce dopiero w wieku XIX za sprawą kolonistów niemieckich osiedlających się na naszych terenach podczas zaborów. Później zwyczaj ten przyjęty został przez polskich mieszczan i inteligencję. Na wsi choinki pojawiły się dopiero w okresie międzywojennym (Polska południowa i centralna).
Początkowo przystrajano ozdobami naturalnymi: jabłuszkami, pierniczkami, orzechami, ozdobami ze słomy i papieru. Sztuczne bombki i dekoracje wyparły jednak ten piękny zwyczaj.
